APRIL 3 UPDATE from Grace United Church

 To All Grace Family Members:

As we draw to the end of Lent and enter the special time of Holy Week together, we realize that we are approaching an Easter like none we have ever encountered before. Indeed, we may feel we are in a strange land as we let go of many of the traditions that have been part of Easter for most, if not all, of our life.

Family gatherings cannot happen. Church services, where we greet each other with the familiar words, “He is risen,” cannot be held. Communion together cannot be shared. Special choir music cannot be heard unless we are listening online or to a recording. Even Easter egg hunts are not a possibility.

So many of you have given up sacred traditions that are close to your heart, and deep in your spiritual life. And for that we grieve. Yet, Easter happens. It is life-giving and irrepressible. Inside all the sacred packaging and traditions there is the life that brings us together and holds us there.

And so as we move through Palm Sunday and the days of Holy Week, may you not only feel the shadow of Jesus’ journey to a cross and grave, but the whisper of the Spirit, already at work bringing life where there is death, and renewal and hope where there is fear and loss.

  • The Maundy Thursday Worship and Seder will not be held, but an online sharing of some of the Seder readings will be attempted. If you would like to know more about that, please contact the church office or Rev. Susan directly.
  • A Good Friday Worship Service with readings and music will be posted to the website and Facebook and will be available by the morning of Friday, April 10.
  • The Kairos-sponsored annual Good Friday Walk for Justice will move to the Internet this year as we “walk” virtually to acknowledge and confess humanity’s complicity in ecological injustice and covenant to work towards ecological justice as a global village. It can be found through Facebook Live at https://www.facebook.com/simcoekairos and will be held live on Friday, April 10 at 1 pm.

As we share these worship times together, may we be renewed in spirit and in community together and feel the blessing of the one who goes before us, enters our pain and walks with us out into an Easter morning.
