To All Grace Family Members:

Greetings to all of you as we arrive at Pentecost Sunday. Did you know that the Season after Pentecost covers nearly half the church year? That means a lot of Sundays are part of this church season whose focus is the Holy Spirit.

Perhaps, right now, we need to be reminded of the Holy Spirit’s presence and power in our lives and the life of our world. The symbols of Pentecost—wind and flame and breath—are all signs of life. It is wonderful imagery, for it gives us an earthy reminder that God is not in a box somewhere, but can be found in the living, breathing creation all around us.

This Sunday, we celebrate Pentecost, which is acknowledged as the birth of the Christian church. Although our building remains closed, we are still the “gathered community” called to live out our ministry and mission in God’s world.

As a reminder of our fellowship, we invite you to participate in communion together. Usually Retha Long gets our communion ready at Grace, but this time we will all need to pitch in and prepare our own.

This Sunday when we join together for worship, please have some bread or crackers handy and a glass of juice, or wine, or whatever you would like to use. During the worship service after the communion prayer and the breaking of bread, there will be time for all of us to partake of the communion elements.

While it may not feel quite the same as having communion in the same space together, it will be our way to remind ourselves that we are linked by the Spirit. And thanks to all our additional participants in this week’s service!

On this Pentecost Sunday, may you feel the warmth of the Spirit and the strength of our Grace community as we worship and share together.

Face Masks

Val Darling (705.719.1821) continues to make face masks for anyone who needs one. No charge, but she recommends that you make a donation to Grace. She is also making catchers (which hold the elastic away from your ears—see attached photo). For the catchers, she needs 1” buttons. Any donation of 1” buttons would be most appreciated.

Vacation Bible Camp

This year, our camp will be a stay-at-home camp, with the theme, “Hidden Treasures.” We have an enthusiastic team putting ideas together for creative ways to “camp” online.
