Greetings to All Grace Family Members:

It seems that our world is in a new turmoil as we read the news and see pictures of demonstrations in American cities. There have been responses in Canada, too. Barrie joined other Canadian cities and held a peaceful demonstration yesterday that attracted several hundred people.

The theme was solidarity with folk in the United States who are victims of racism, but there was also an expressed outrage that in Canada we have yet to deal with our own racist attitudes and “white privilege.”

Perhaps one of the most concerning statistics is to know that racialized Canadians are more likely to be poor and have been at higher risk of contracting COVID19. Currently, Health Units are tracking that information and helping us to get a better picture of what is happening.

In this Pentecost season, we are reminded that there is still much work for us to do to care for all God’s people and all creation.

We grieve for the loss of life we have witnessed.

This week, the Grace family suffered its own loss. We were saddened by the death of Roland Grantham after his brief stay at Hospice Simcoe. We keep his family in our thoughts and prayers.

While we wait for more information from the province, we are starting to look at ways in which we might live-stream worship services when the phased reopening of church buildings begins. We know it will take time, that there might be fresh outbreaks, and that some folks may feel very hesitant about venturing out for quite a while.

So, the Tech Team, under the able leadership of Don Lynn, has been looking at options for us to consider. Let us know what you think of the idea of live-streaming worship services from Grace after we are able to come back together again.

Weekly Events

As we move into the warmer weather of summer, some of our regular “online” events may adjust their schedules and frequency of meetings. Please watch for that information here in this letter and on the Grace website.

Below you will find information about events this coming week, as well as the attached Prayer List.

Message from Murph, our Treasurer

Recently, the Finance and Stewardship Team invited us to donate for fundraisers that had to be cancelled. As there is no “purchase,” Murph is able to consider those contributions as donations. That means they will count as tax receiptable givings.

Vacation Bible Camp

Thanks to all those who have responded that they are interested in helping with or attending Vacation Bible Camp this year. The date is now confirmed as Monday, July 13 to Friday, July 17. Although it won’t be held at Grace, there will be lots to do, and information is being sent to each child. The theme this year is “Hidden Treasure.” For more information, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or phone 705.734.0760.

May you find some time this week to acknowledge God’s creation. And may you find time to pray for our neighbours and friends who face racial violence and community upheaval. Together, may we find a new way forward.
